Altiva Software to Add the U.S. National CAD Standard™ Version 4.0 to CADconform
June 23, 2008 (Houston, TX) — Altiva Software announced an extension of its agreement with the AIA, CSI, and NIBS to include the United States National CAD Standard™ (NCS) Version 4.0 enhancements to CADconform®, its software product that promotes and enforces 100% conformance to CAD standards.
For the last 2 years, Altiva Software has included, at no additional charge, the full the NCS V3.1 for both AutoCAD® and MicroStation® in its comprehensive standards application. And CADconform remains the fastest and easiest way to roll-out and enforce the NCS standard throughout an enterprise. It accomplishes this feat by integrating these 3 critical functions into one cohesive solution that works seamlessly within both AutoCAD and MicroStation:
-
Ready-to-use NCS drafting menus and drawing templates that speed drafting to the NCS while reducing compliance errors.
-
An interactive "standards checker" that makes checking and fixing both new and old drawings to the NCS standard quick and easy.
-
A tamper-proof, watermark seal that ensures drawing objects conform 100% to the defined NCS standard.
-
Expanded and reorganized CAD Layer Guidelines make it easier to locate layer names, including new telecommunications and electrical discipline layer names.
-
Updated Uniform Drawing System adds new and revised symbols for geotech, security, fire suppression, masonry, plaster and updates and clarifies common drawing practices.
-
Completely re-written Plotting Guidelines reflect that line widths are no longer required to be mapped to color numbers.
-
Version 4.0 now includes documents in PDF, Excel, and .dwg file formats, making it easier to search and integrate the standard into CAD, BIM, costing, and other software.
The NCS, first published in 1999, was developed by committee and initially based on industry documents from the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS), the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), and the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Other groups and pertinent documents have been included in later issues; the latest version, 4.0, was published in January 2008.
In July 2005, the 3 groups invited software vendors to incorporate the standard – which existed only as a large printed manual and PDF file – into an appropriate software package, to make it easier to use and check against the standard as part of the drafting process. Altiva Software was the first to meet this challenge.
