Altiva Software Announces Plans for General Release of CADindexer

August 15, 2007 (Houston, TX) — Altiva Software announces plans for a general release of CADindexer, its software tool that lets remote users create a document management index based on structured indexing standards across large numbers of design files. CADindexer will be available in January 2008 and will fully support the Microsoft Vista™ operating system.

CADindexer guides the user through the process of entering the correct indexing data for design files being submitted to a client. Logic and requirements are built into CADindexer based on standards set by the client, which are governed in part by the client's document management system (DMS).

CADindexer produces an XML index file that the user submits with the design files to the client. The client then uses the XML index to import the index information into the DMS.

"On large complex construction projects, it's impractical – and probably unwise – for a client to provide hundreds of contractors direct access to the client's DMS," explained Altiva Software CEO Philip Hurlston. "CADindexer provides a fast and easy way for contractors to provide all required indexing data, in the proper format, improving the data accuracy and project efficiency for both subcontractor and client."

An Altiva Software customer commissioned this product after wasting valuable time and resources having to manually check and fix indexing metadata so that the hundreds and thousands of design files from more than 200 separate contractors could be entered into its DMS. The client, a state department of transportation (DOT), wanted a tool to assist and assure that its many subcontractors provided all of the necessary indexing data in the correct format.

Though commonly used for indexing design files, CADindexer also supports indexing of other file formats such as TIFF, PDF, and Microsoft Office.
